The Fresh Effect
Monday we celebrated Labor Day. A day we take as a nation to celebrate the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. This holiday signifies the official end of summer. A time when those family BBQ's, vacations, and cherished visits with family and friends give way to football, pumpkin spice everything, shorter days, and cooler weather, unless you live in Texas. LOL!!
September brings new energy and has a built-in momentum. It's back to work and back to school season, and this gives us a feeling of an empty calendar and a clean slate. It just feels natural that there would be fresh beginnings and new possibilities.
This is called the "Fresh Start Effect." Research shows that people are more likely to take action towards goals after temporal landmarks that represent new beginnings. Landmarks such as the start of a new week, month, year, school semester, birthdays, job changes, or moving give you the feeling of a fresh start.
What better time than the official start of pumpkin spice everything and the start of a new season to reengage with your goals and finish the year strong?
These three steps will help you reset, reengage, and finish your 2019 with a bang.
1. Evaluate and Reflect: The only way to know what you want in the future and how you will get there is to know where you are right now. Take some time to step back, evaluate, and reflect exactly where you are.
2. Define your goal: Imagine, it's midnight on New Year's Eve, and you are looking back at 2019 with a smile on your face, what is the one thing, the one goal, that will make 2019 your best year yet? The goal that makes you smile is the goal you want to pick to work on and finish for the last four months of the year.
3. Make a plan: You know how you decide to take a trip some, and you make a plan of how you are going to get from where you are to where you want to be? Well, your goals aren't any different. Be intentional about how you are going to accomplish your goal. What steps do you need to take to get you there? Write those down and get them on your calendar.

What obstacles can get in the way of accomplishing this goal?
