Soak it up!

We find ourselves in unprecedented times that have caused many of us to slow down in ways we are not used to. Even though many states have started to allow businesses to open, you may still find yourself feeling very cooped up. You may have been working from home, or homeschooling your kids, and you may be longing for a vacation now more than ever. However, you may be experiencing financial hardships, or if you are like me, I don't want to travel anywhere because of COVID.

While things look different this year, what if your summer could still be full of fun, rest, and making memories?

The magic of summer is upon us, and it is up to us to be intentional about making the most of these sun-filled days. Here are some ideas to help you soak up the summer days.

Practice awareness

Most of us have been cooped up in the house for some time. Take some time to go for a walk and allow yourself to become aware of your surroundings. Take in the scent of the freshly mowed grass, notice how the sun feels on your face, or sit down on a park bench and watch as people walk by. Spend a few minutes each day to take in your surroundings. If you are like me and love to write, consider writing about what you see and feel.

It's okay to slow down

We have been given the gift of time in these last few months. Allow yourself to enjoy the slower pace. As we get older, we don't allow ourselves to downshift and enjoy the life that is going on around you. Don't be in such a rush to move onto the next project.

Immerse yourself in a meaningful activity

The older we get, the more serious we get. When was the last time you allowed yourself to be creative, dance, draw, or do something you are passionate about and something that stretches you?

Unplug

The world is very intense right now and rightfully so. But we all have to take time away from the news, social media, emails, text messages. Our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health depends on it. Unplug and get outside and enjoy the summer. Take the opportunity to try something new like paddleboarding or kayaking.

We are experiencing different times. And while we may not have planned for 2020 this way, we can grab the reins and be intentional with how we spend our summer. All of these can be done while socially distancing ourselves or wearing a mask. Don't let the summer slip through your hands. Be intentional and soak it up!
