Finding Gratitude During a Pandemic
When I wake up in the morning, I have the same routine. Each day I get up, I take the fur baby outside, I feed her, grab a cup of coffee, my glasses, and phone and head back to my office. Inside my office, I have a tiny little nook that holds a chair that belonged to my mom and a small table with a lamp.
It is in this special place where I enjoy my quiet time. I read my morning devotion, read the bible scripture that goes along with it, and write in my journal. This first thing I pen in my journal is the three things I am most grateful for that morning. Some days I find myself grateful for big things like a new job or a good report on someone's health, and other days I am grateful for the coffee in my cup.
Finding gratitude can be especially challenging during times like these. People have lost their jobs and experiencing financial hardships. Small businesses are struggling to survive. Simple items like toilet paper and hand sanitizer that we once took for granted are now a hot commodity. These are tough times, and finding gratitude during a pandemic can be difficult.
I want to challenge you to SEARCH FOR gratitude in this season. Finding gratitude doesn't always mean being grateful for big things. Some days we may find ourselves grateful that we've survived another day working from home and schooling our children.
I want to challenge you to SEARCH FOR the silver linings in the trials and tribulations of life.
In everything, give thanks. Be cheerful, no matter what. Be thankful in all circumstances. Rejoice always and delight in your faith. Fostering gratitude helps you feel satisfaction and joy even in moments of challenge.
Even when it feels like life has you in a chokehold, SEARCH FOR gratitude.
A heart of gratitude can unlock the fullness of life. Gratitude is a journey, not a destination.
I want to leave you with this quote from Melody Beattie,
"Gratitude ... turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend."
Take a mindful moment to recognize your gifts. What are you grateful for today?
