Change Starts With You
To say that there are a lot of bad things going on in the world is an understatement. I know for myself that it can be overwhelming to watch the news and hear it all. Some days it can even seem hopeless. I ask myself, “Where do I fit in to make the world a better place?” The thoughts that run through my mind are endless. It is easy to feel overwhelmed.
When I think about what I can do, a lot of things come up. I can be more helpful or volunteer more. Or reduce my carbon footprint, or be a mentor. I am sure you get the point. How do you do it all? What makes choosing one thing over the other better. Does choosing one thing over another make a more significant impact? See what I mean? It can all be overwhelming.
Here’s a thought. What if we were the change we want to see in the world? I know. It is so cliché, and everyone is tired of hearing it. But I believe this is how we make the world a better place.
Here are three steps you can take to be the change.
Change Yourself: Your thoughts influence your feelings, which affect your actions. Negative thoughts equal negative actions. Positive thoughts equal positive actions. When you chose to have positive thoughts, then you can view the world through a different lens. This change in view also allows you to act in ways you wouldn't have or maybe even thought about when you're stuck in your old thought patterns. Change your thoughts to change your life.
You’re in Control: What you feel and how you feel it are totally up to you. You are in control of your thoughts and how you react to them. You choose how you react (negative) or respond (positive) to any situation.
Forgive and Let Go: When you don’t forgive people, you allow them to have control over your life. You can’t fight evil with evil. Choose to love and not hate. Again, you are in control of how you see things. When you choose to forgive and let go, you release yourself from bondage. When you free yourself from the bondage, you allow yourself to move forward.
With each one of these steps, you are choosing to be the change. The only person you can change is yourself. When others see you and the positive energy you resonate with, they will want to be that change.
Each day, all you can do is what you can do.
