Don't Be Anxious About Your Life

Therefore, I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? (Matthew 6:25)

Fear, anxiety, worry, they are all in the same pile of feelings we all experience. What you and I are anxious about might be different but the feeling is the same.

The world gives you countless reasons to be anxious. The constant overflow of the Internet and social media makes life fast-paced and competitive. There is extreme pressure for you to be always "on," to look and sound perfect and to have it all together.

The world system gets you so wrapped up in societies expectations for your life. You find yourself continually running after what the world thinks you should be, do, and have. Before you know it what was once anxiety about moving to a big city or making a life change is now anxiety that disrupts your everyday life. You are in a constant state of stress, going, going, going, and your mind is unable to shut off. Anxiety has become your new normal.

Anxiety is rooted in unbelief and unknowns. It is a place where you're believing you won't make it through. Unbelief gets the upper hand in your heart, and before you know it, the anxiety begins to take over your mind and plunges your thoughts into the darkness. You are just trying to survive.

Part of that survival is engaging in other behaviors and trying to reduce the amount of anxiety you are feeling. Maybe you are drinking or doing drugs to take the edge off. Or perhaps it's the ambition you seek. You are trying to make enough money to feel safe. Whatever it is you find yourself doing it will only work for a short while. Because what you are experiencing comes from a deeper level.

Awareness is the first step. Slow down, look inward, and see what it is that is driving you. Are you externally motivated? Do you push yourself forward with the desire to be the best (Perfectionism)? To please others (people pleaser)? Or to feel a sense of control over your life?

Where does your identity lie? Does it lie with the world or within?

When you chase what the world has to offer you what you will discover is that you will never have enough, do enough or be enough. You are chasing something that you will never catch. You will remain anxious and unfulfilled.

What can you do?

1. Seek more than what the world has to offer. There is a more significant force at work — a higher power. I say God you might say universe. Regardless of what you believe you have to seek more of Him and less of the world. Connect to that still small voice that is deep within and hear what it is telling you. It is calling you to something bigger and better than you could ever imagine — something the world can't offer you.

2. Shift your perspective. How do you see your life? Do you see your life from the standpoint of fear or hopelessness? Society brings a lot of pressure and it can and will mold your perspective. Renew your mind and shift your perspective to whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, and lovely. The still small voice will guide you.

3. Create your path. Are you creating a life that means something to you on your terms or are you subscribing to the world's expectations for your life? I am here to tell you the time has come to push the world system aside and connect with that still small voice within. That still small voice inside of you speaks the truth. There is a purpose for your life. When you subscribe to the world system, it is possible that you will never discover it much less walk in the fullness of it.

What is real right now?

Is it a problem or a fact?

How do I feel right now?

How do I want to feel right now?

What do I need to do to feel that way?

What one small step can I take to start moving in that direction?
