Trusting the Process
The last three weeks we have been exploring what I like to call the foundational steps to create a life that means something to you on your terms.
Step 1: Awareness- stepping outside of yourself and taking an objective and non-judgmental view of your life to identify exactly where you are.
Step 2: Acceptance- learning to accept that where you’re at is exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Step 3: Be Intentional- understanding that you have the choice to decide what you want your life to look like and creating a plan with intentional steps to get you there.
Today, I want to share
Step 4: Trusting the Process- knowing that while you’re working your plan, you and your plan are a work in progress that can and will change over time.
You are a work in progress.
Always changing, always evolving. Learning and growing every day. When you look at yourself and your life through this lens you will learn that you never truly arrive. As you move through your life, gain experience, learn new things, you will see that there are times that what you want may change. Be okay with that.
I have had some clients that I've worked with that get so focused on where she is headed that she fails to see the wonderful opportunities that show up for her throughout her journey. She gets tunnel vision. She is so focused on what is right in front that she fails to see what is to the left or right of her.
In the past, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I was focused on completing my education while I was still in the military so I could get out become a teacher. I was already collecting things for my future classroom.
While I was stationed at Ft. McClellan, AL, the unit (organization) I was with conducted a two-week band camp each summer. This was a perfect opportunity for me to practice being a teacher. Guess what? I hated it. It was the worst experience ever. After those two weeks, I knew that an elementary teacher was not where I was supposed to be and did a course correction on my college studies.
If I would have allowed myself to be so blinded by my goal of being an elementary school teacher that I didn’t see what was being shown to me I would have totally missed it. Instead, I allowed myself to look left and right and make a different choice.
Allow yourself to be open to change.
Awareness, acceptance, and being intentional allow you to consciously choose your plan. Now it is time to trust, let go, and know that you have done everything to put your plan in place. A great work is being done in you. Keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish. You’ve got this.
Trust the process, let go, and have faith!
How open are you to new possibilities?
What might get in the way of exploring new possibilities, and what will you do if that happens?
How might a lack of trusting the process be holding you back currently?
What’s preventing you from trusting the process?
