What If I Told You...

What if I told you that where you are is exactly where you need to be? Would you believe me? Could you “Accept” that this was true for you?

Last week on the blog I shared that creating a life that means something to you on your terms is about digging deeper for your purpose or calling in life that is driven by your own desires and values. The first step to this is AWARENESS. Awareness is the foundation for change. The key to creating awareness is stepping outside of yourself so that you can look at your life objectively suspending all judgment of yourself and your life.

When you practice Awareness, you are able to see clearly "what is" and "what was." With awareness, you gain clarity about where you are. (If you missed last week's blog click here to read more.)

Once you have identified where you are the next step is to practice Acceptance.


When you practice ACCEPTANCE you are saying that everything is (and was) perfectly ok. This is acceptance of yourself, of others, and of situations. Just like awareness, with acceptance, you are coming from a place of non-judgment and simply acknowledging yourself and your life as "what is" without rating it good or bad.

Stick with me. I promise it will become clearer.

When you are feeling stuck and/or you’re not happy with who you are or where you’re at in your life your default is to start “shoulding” all over yourself. You think, “I should have done this” or “I should have done that.” Where does this get you?

The first step in ACCEPTING where you’re at now is to recognize the impact of your past on you today.

Your past has created who you are today.

All of your experiences have affected the way

you live your life.

you make decisions.

relate to the world.

you see yourself.

Have you heard that saying that hindsight is 20/20? It is. When you look back you are looking back with the complete knowledge of the situation and the outcome that happened, it is easy to get caught up in that. When you do this how does it serve you?

ACCEPT where you’re at!

What if I told you that you did and are doing the best that you can?

One of the most effective ways of becoming more accepting is to realize that in every moment of your life, past and present, that you are doing the best you can. None of us wake up in the morning with the intent to do anything less than our best.

Instead of wasting your energy beating yourself up over the “mistakes”, stop and ask yourself “What can I learn from this experience?”

To accept where you are means your best tomorrow can be a lot better than your best today.

So, I want to ask you again,

What if I told you that where you are is exactly where you need to be? Would you believe me? Could you “Accept” that this was true for you?

If you could embrace this thought how would it change your life?

How does a lack of acceptance affect your life?

How might a lack of acceptance be holding you back from creating a life that means something to you on your terms?

What do you believe will be your biggest obstacle in learning to accept everything you are and do?

What would it look like/feel like if you found acceptance for who and where you are?
